There is a crime program on TV today on cocaine in the 70's or 80's in the United States and it seems that this illegal drug was consumed rampantly then. I looked on Wikpedia and I learned that they had found cocaine in mummies dating 3000 years back. The coca plant has medicinal properties and it is a stimulant for fatigue and all kinds of human ailments and has even been credited for longevity by the South American natives who have used this plants drug properties effectively in their lives.
In the United States the import of coca leaves or the possession of coca plants is illegal. In the Netherlands it is legal to use cocaine for medicinal purposes. Right now the legality of having cocaine as medicine is being discussed by the U.S. government.
I think that any plant that affects the normal thinking in big ways and addicts people where they can overdose, like with the drug cocaine, should be illegal. This drug might work for natives of South America who know how to use the drug and not let it affect their minds in negative ways but it would not work for average Americans who would not know the proper use of this drug and could overdose on it.

Hello Miss Marina,
ReplyDeleteI read that in some cases people might even die the first time they try the drug! It seems that it is very hard on the heart. Plus, you never know what it was mixed with before it was sold. It could be foot powder, baby laxative, or worse.
